Overview: 

The course provides theoretical frameworks, underlying principles, concepts, scope, goals, teaching strategies and a multitude of practical ideas and activities related to early childhood social studies and its integration with other curriculum areas. Students will examine and engage in activities that offer children experiences and study of the political, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects of societies in the past, present, and future. Students will appreciate how carefully designed experiences in a planned learning environment can prompt young children to make discoveries about themselves, others and the world they live in. Emotional and social learning as well as character education are nurtured through social studies. Students will also examine theories and research in the areas of social and emotional development as well as character education.
